Sharing the fun and value of forensics and communication with the world.
Our mission at Fluency is to share the fun and value of forensics and communication with the world. And while we love the spirit and excitement of competition, our main goal is to equip young people with the skills and knowledge of effective communication for lifelong success.
And no matter what, we deliver this with enthusiasm, innovation and FUN.
We focus on the educational process and cultivating thinkers that can create their own art. Education never ends, and we balance the needs of speech competition with communication and performance skill development that will last a lifetime.
Young performers learn in many ways, and we ensure our coaching strategies listen and adapt to the unique needs of our students. No broad-brush approach here, only positive and caring coaches who develop each student in their own way.
Trophies and competitions are great, but that winning feeling is fleeting. We believe the true value is in the lasting memories made along the education journey.

Allyzah could not imagine her life without Speech and Debate. It brings She values teaching and coaching speech students because she knows first-hand the fear of public speaking. Throughout her high school competitive career, she found that the best way to overcome that fear was to find topics that she was passionate about and let that overpower any doubts. If you love what you’re talking about, you can find the confidence to push aside your doubts and fears long enough to share your perspective with the world. During her career, Allyzah has received various state and national awards and has competed in events such as: After Dinner Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Original Oratory, Poetry, Prose, Dramatic Interpretation, and Duo/Duet Interpretation. She graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts (with a minor in Interpersonal Communication) in 2019 and from Sam Houston State University with a Master of Arts in Communication Studies in 2022. She is currently a Communication Studies professor at Sam Houston State University where she continues to spread the joy and passion of studying communication. Debbie is one of the most acclaimed speech coaches in America. Both the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League and the National Speech and Debate Association have voted her into the Coaches’ Hall of Fame. In 2016, the NSDA chose her as Middle School Coach of the year. And in 2017, the Speech Communication Association of America chose Debbie as Co-Teacher of the Year. These awards have come because of her extraordinary work at Milton Academy. As a Milton Academy Upper School and Middle School Speech Team coach, Debbie guided individual students to local, state, district, and national championships. Debbie is also highly regarded as a premier educator and wonderful human being. Debbie has taught English, Class IV grammar, Oral Interpretation in the Arts Program, and a host of Performing Arts courses in the classroom. FLUENCY is extremely humbled to have Debbie as one of our coaches. Her dedication to teaching, her care for her students, her passion for the arts – all emanate from the love that Debbie pours forth daily.
Drake is a proud graduate of George Mason University with a BFA in Theatre Performance and a Concentration in Musical Theatre! Drake began competitive forensics in the eighth grade, (thank you Ms. Jones!), and has since competed in every high school and collegiate event except for limited prep because he is a scaredy-cat who fears improvisational smart talk – though he generally fears smart-talk out of principle, scripted or otherwise. In his career, Drake has become a six-time TFA state finalist, the 2016 NSDA runner-up in Program Oral Interpretation, a two-time (2017/2018) NSDA semi-finalist in Humorous Interpretation, four-time NSDA qualifier, George Mason Patriot Games Individual Sweepstakes Champion, Longhorn Games Individual Sweepstakes Runner-Up, 2018 Glenbrook’s Humorous Interpretation Champion, UIL 2017 Prose Champion, recipient of the NIETOC 2018 Perfect Performance Individual Sweepstakes Award, and preliminary competitor at the Southlake, Texas Carroll Senior High School local tournament. He also is the recipient of the greatest mentors a teenager could have asked for in Grant Hahn, Colin Malinak, Joe Muller, and Bethany Bohall; and if he was forced to choose between the success he’s found or the lessons these four taught him, the latter would win without a second’s hesitation.
Dyana is a proud graduate of the University of Texas, where she competed for Texas Speech and served as LP Captain for two years. Dyana competed across the limited preparation and public address events, seeing multiple national final rounds. In her senior year, she was the runner up in Extemporaneous Speaking and Communication Analysis at the AFA-NIET, and the runner up in Sweepstakes, Impromptu Speaking, and Extemporaneous Speaking at the NFA national tournament. Prior to her time on the college speech circuit, Dyana competed for Saint Mary’s Hall as Extemp Captain and competed in outrounds at the Extemporaneous Tournament of Champions and TFA State.
Dyana is passionate about educational equity. She taught 1st grade English language learners for two years and obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2021. She now works in recruitment for EdTech startups.
Frank is a television and film writer who has been passionate about Speech and Debate since he first joined his middle school team 16 years ago. Though he now lives in Los Angeles, Frank is originally from Boston, where he competed on the Milton Academy Speech and Debate Team under the legendary Debbie Simon. While in high school, Frank was a four-time State Finalist, a two-time State Champion, a four-time National Qualifier, and a competitor in numerous outrounds at national-level tournaments. His proudest achievements were being named an NFL Academic All-American, awarded to students only with a high enough GPA and high enough number of NFL Points; finishing in the Top 13 at CFL Nationals in Dramatic Performance; earning a spot in the Top 13 at NFL Nationals in Poetry. His Final Round Runner-up placement in Dramatic Performance at the University of Pennsylvania Liberty Bell Classic at the start of his senior year proved oddly prescient, as he ultimately majored in Neuroscience and minored in French at the University of Pennsylvania. Since graduating college with honors, Frank has coached numerous finalists at both National Tournaments, as well as numerous national-level tournaments in Oral Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Original Oratory, and his first love, Humorous Interpretation. He has a special talent for writing fun, topical introductions. His writing partner, actress Erica Dasher, and he first met when she filmed him as a competitor for Figures of Speech, a documentary about Speech and Debate on Netflix narrated by Star Trek‘s Chris Pine. Coincidentally, Frank is now featured on Netflix himself, in Episode 5 of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo.

James owes so much of his forensics success to all his coaches, teammates, and family. It is because of them that he was able to obtain an acting degree and is now a working actor in New York City.
